Gita Jayanti Visit to DSF School in Rishikesh
Yesterday was Gita Jayanti, the celebration of the anniversary of the day that Krishna spoke the sacred scripture of the Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, and we celebrated with a very special event at one of our free schools here in Rishikesh. The children had prepared so many songs and dances, as well as speeches and recitations of sacred mantras from the Bhagavad-Gita. They also had a beautiful science exhibition where they showcased their science projects on their deep understanding all of the problems facing our Planet Earth, from pollution to climate change, and so much more. But the exhibit also highlighted their innovative and creative solutions, including rainwater harvesting, alternative sources of energy and much more!
We then distributed new warm track suits to be their wintertime school uniform so they can stay warm and cost.
Being with these children is always such a huge joy and one of my favorite moments. Our schools, coaching and tutoring centers and and women’s vocational training and empowerment centers are all 100% free and serve the children and the women of nearby slums and urban poor communities. To be able to serve as a vehicle of hope and opportunity for them is such an extraordinary blessing.
