Meeting with Governor of Uttar Pradesh

Pujya Swamiji had a wonderful meeting with His Excellency the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Ram Naikji, discussing plans for a green and sustainable Uttar Pradesh.

Pujya Swamiji lauded His Excellency for taking his sankalpa (pledge), on the banks of Mother Ganga, during the 16th Annual International Yoga Festival in Parmarth Niketan (Rishikesh), earlier this year, and putting it immediately into action to clean up the River Gomti. Pujya Swamiji shared that His Excellency’s initiative and commitment exemplified true Yoga in Action.

They discussed the great progress on restoring the banks of the River Gomti as well as plans to continue the momentum and create a success model for other tributaries of the River Ganga.

Pujya Swamiji shared setting up Green Corridors along both sides of the river banks, in which specific shrubs, medicinal herbs, fruit-bearing, shade giving trees would be planted to create a biosphere, protecting the river from pollution and preventing soil erosion.

Pujya Swamiji also shared setting up Mokshda Green Crematoriums Systems along the banks of the River so that last rites ceremonies could be performed in a respectful manner, preserving tradition while also saving upto 60% of the wood utilized in standard cremations.

They briefly discussed the fruitful Roundtable Dialogue, that had taken place earlier in the day in Lucknow, on Global Interfaith WASH Alliance, bringing together eminent interfaith leaders and senior editors of top media houses from all across India, organized by UNICEF and Samyak Foundation.

Pujya Swamiji invited His Excellency, once again, to next year’s International Yoga Festival, in which Yogis from 100 countries were expected to attend, all of whom would be inspired to take their ‘Yoga Off the Mat’ and take the Green Pledge for Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). Also present during the meeting were Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswatiji, Shri Ram Mahesh Mishraji and Nandini Tripathi.
