The Power of Shakti – International Women’s Day

Happy International Women’s Day from the banks of the Mother Goddess Ganga! Today we share with you this beautiful video from the recent Yogini Awards honoring women as yoga experts and community leaders. Sadhviji, after receiving a special Yogini Award, spoke about the importance of honoring the Divine Shakti (the Divine Feminine) in our lives and acknowledging the powerful role of women as the embodiment of Shakti on earth. She shared how in Hinduism, we always take the name of the Goddess first in our prayers and mantras.

In Sanskrit and Hindi, the word for Creation is Shrishti, which is feminine. The word for Nature is Prakriti, which is also feminine! The word for the energy through which creation, sustenance and dissolution happens (all aspects of the Divine) is Shakti, feminine! So there is a very deep awareness of the critical, inextricable, powerful role played by the Divine Feminine in every aspect of the Universe!

Sadhviji reminded us that even in English, we refer to Mother Earth and Mother Nature, recognizing the universal understanding of the importance of the Feminine Principle. She emphasized that it is through the Divine Feminine that the power of Creation happens, and we must never lose sight of that.

Sadhviji also honoured the important and powerful contributions of her Guru H.H. Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswati ji, who has always been a visionary, strong and courageous supporter of Shakti in the form of women, girls and Mother Nature, in so so many ways.

Sadhviji’s wise words, especially in the sacred presence of Mother Ganga, inspire, uplift and guide us to truly embrace the Truth of the Divine Feminine and to see that in all aspects — our women, our girls and our Mother Earth and Mother Nature.
