What Path Is The Right Path?

Yesterday was Narad Jayanti, the celebration of the birth and life of the sage Narad Muni. A muni is one who observes great silence and austerities and Narad Muni was an incredible being of wisdom and devotion. He is the author of the Bhakti sutras, the very treatise on devotion and love for the Divine. Yesterday in satsang, coincidentally someone asked a question about how to know which path is the right path in life, how to know if you’re meant to live a life of renunciation in an ashram or do something else. In answering the question I had the joyful opportunity to share my personal experience with one of stories of the life of Naradji, the time when he — much against his nature — fell in love with a beautiful princess and yearned to make her his wife. It was a story Pujya Swamiji told to me about 3 or 4 years after I had taken vows of sanyas (monastic celibacy and renunciation) when suddenly I was, like Naradji, feeling temporarily pulled toward desire and away from devotion. Listen and enjoy the story!
