Why Do We Light Oil Lamps?

So many of us – in our rooms, in our mandirs – light a diya every day. It’s a beautiful part of our pujas, a beautiful way to offer prayers to the Divine. But, we don’t need a diya to pray, right? So, why do we do it? Why do we light oil lamps?
