Does Meditation Work If I Don’t Believe in God?

Is there a reason to meditate if you don’t believe that there is a God or other Divine being? As Sadhviji explains, meditation is the practice by which we experience the Truth of who WE are. If you believe in God – and, especially if you believe that God is in everyone and everything – then you could think of meditation as being a way to get in-touch with the presence of God within yourself. If you don’t believe in God, then meditation is what brings you into touch with the Truth of who YOU are, your higher, truer Self, beyond the physical body, beyond its relationships to other physical bodies, beyond what it does 9-5, Monday to Friday…Meditation shows us who we really are.

So, in this beautiful teaching, Sadhviji assures us that even if you don’t believe in God, you only have to believe in your Self to know that meditation is beneficial. You just have to believe that there is a “you” beyond the clothes and the job and the relationships and beyond the roles. And, if you want to know that “you,” you have to meditate.
