Happy Mother’s Day & Ganga Saptami!
The Mother Goddess, in the form of this sacred river, flowed from the heavens onto the Earth in order to bring liberation (moksha) to the fallen sons of King Sagar… BUT, She stayed… She stayed for us! She came for them but stayed for us, for all of us….to bring us life in her life-giving waters, to bring us liberation, the ultimate freedom, when we bathe in Her sacred nectar, and to bring us the opportunity to connect with the Divine.
So today as we celebrate our physical birth mothers, we also have the sacred opportunity to realize and remember our Mother Goddess, the Divine Mother — in the form of Mother Ganga or in the form of Ma Durga, Ma Lakshmi, Ma Parvati, Ma Saraswati or any form of the Goddess. We also celebrate and honor our Mother Earth and Mother Nature who nourish and nurture us like our own birth mothers…..
For me the day is particularly special as my physical birth mother is still, due to her devastating stroke last year, without any of her cognition or mental capacity to even know that she is a mother… it’s a beautiful blessing to be able to share the sacred space of just pure love and presence with her. AND – it is deeply sad that she has no memory or awareness. So being able to celebrate Mother’s Day hugging my own mother and also being bathed in Mother Ganga’s waters is such a special, special blessing.
