Is Human Love the Same as Divine Love?

When most of us love someone that love seems to get mixed up with attachment and expectation also. When we love someone, we expect something from them. And, the longer we’ve loved them, the more we feel entitled to get what we want from them. “I love you, so you should talk to me and treat me a certain way, and you should behave a certain way towards me.” But, really, that’s not love. That’s grasping and grabbing for someone else to give you the peace and joy you’re looking for. It’s the ego-filled idea that, because I love you, I am entitled to have you live according to my agenda. And, THAT, is not love.

If, however, what we’re feeling is real love, Sadhviji explains… then, actually, human love is the same love that we feel for God. If it’s free of attachment, expectation and lust, then what we are loving is the soul…the spirit…the essence of that being which, ultimately, is the Divine. And, this turns out to be the greatest gift to our higher selves, as well.
