Stop Wasting the Precious Minutes of Your Life

How frequently do you find yourself aimlessly, mindlessly scrolling on social media until your eyes glaze over? Or watching some ridiculous, albeit cute, video of some random person’s cat who you don’t even know? Or reading some random news story about some random person you’ve never heard of and are not even interested in and you can’t even remember how you got onto that page? This happens to most of us much more frequently than we would like to admit. It happens for two main reasons: 1) simply because our brains are tired and need a break. The problem is that zoning out on social media is neither restful nor rejuvenating and certainly does not leave us fresh and inspired to live our life. If you find that your brain is tired and needs a break, put down your device and take a walk outside. Get into nature. Meditate. Call a loved one. Meet someone for a cup of tea. listen to music you love. Read poetry. Do something that actually refreshes you. Many of us would feel embarrassed to take breaks like that in the middle of the workday, but we don’t realize how much time we are wasting by not actually refreshing our brains!

The second reason for this mindless scrolling and clicking is quite simply the algorithms that have been programmed into these social media apps and websites with one goal and one goal only: to keep us scrolling and clicking. If that’s what’s going on for you, put down your device, and declare out-loud: “I am not a slave to your algorithm! Just because you are being paid to make me stare at the screen, does not mean I will do it!”

Take back the minutes of your day. They are the bricks from which the temple of your life is made.
