The Guest is God

One of the most wonderful traditions in India is Atithi Devo Bhavah, the Guest is God. In the tradition, everyone – literally everyone – is a guest, and every guest is to be treated as if they are Divine. It’s such a magnificent and heart-warming philosophy, and one that is the foundation of both our culture and our faith.

And, it’s the perfect follow-up to our Namaste – I see the Divine in you! It says that no one is a stranger…and that everyone, no matter their color or gender or faith or nationality or sexual orientation, is welcome! It reminds us also of Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam, the world is one family…

And, that’s just beautiful!
