Why did Lord Krishna choose to become a charioteer?

Why in the Mahabharat Lord Krishna serves as a charioteer when He could have been anything. He was GOD, He could have played any role, whatever role he wanted it was his. Why did he choose to be the charioteer? What’s the message there? Pujya Sadhviji explains it so beautifully here.
