Yoga is Union with the Divine & How do we find true happiness?

Yoga is Union with the Divine

Sadhvi Bhagawatiji reminds us that there’s a lot more to Yoga than just what we’re doing with our bodies. She uses examples from the ancient texts of Patanjali to describe Yoga as a holistic lifestyle. In the Baghvad Gita, an Asana is described as something you sit on to prepare yourself for Yoga. The style or conditions under which we practice Yoga are less relevant as long as, on some level, our practice gets us closer to that union with the Divine within and without.

How do we find true happiness?

Sadhviji tells us that teachings of all major religions all agree that true happiness has to come from that which is eternal and unchanging. Connect to the Divine within yourself, it is always there. She uses the analogy of eating ice cream to describe the stages of temporary happiness; the anticipation, the eating, the moments just after finishing, and then the happiness is gone. Things that brought us happiness as children don’t serve the same purpose now – if you base your happiness on external things that come and go, you’ll always be looking.
