No More Milk In Our Mandirs
For centuries, milk has been offered in devotion as a symbol of purity and reverence. But today, especially in the United States and across the industrialized Western World, the milk on our mandir altars tells a different story—one of unimaginable cruelty. Factory-farmed cows endure lives of pain, exploitation, and suffering. By using this milk in our sacred rituals, are we truly honoring the principles of ahimsa and compassion?
We must ask ourselves: How can we offer something born of violence to the Divine? By supporting industrial dairy, we are inadvertently fueling the beef industry, polluting our planet, and betraying our sacred connection to Mother Cow. This is not the legacy we want to pass on.
It’s time to make a shift. Let us replace harmful offerings with ones that reflect the true essence of our faith—love, nonviolence, and purity. Offerings of rose-petal water, Tulsi, or Sandalwood paste carry the same devotion while honoring life and protecting our planet.
Faith leaders, temple committees, and devotees living in the US and other Western countries with industrial diaries — —this is our moment to take a stand. Let us come together to end the use of milk from industrial dairy farms in our mandirs. Let’s show the world that our rituals can evolve without losing their sacred essence.
